Cookie Policy & Storage Technologies
Last updated: September 15, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies, local storage, and similar web technologies are used on BuiltForLocal (builtforlocal.us), what purposes they serve, and how you can manage your preferences at any time.
What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your browser or device to remember information across page loads or return visits.
Modern browsers also support localStorage, a secure client-side mechanism that allows a website to remember specific settings directly on your device without sending that data to the web server with every HTTP request.
We refer to "cookies and storage technologies" because BuiltForLocal uses localStorage to store your consent preference and uses HTTP cookies for web analytics only if you explicitly grant permission.
Strictly Necessary Storage
Strictly necessary technologies are essential for the website to function properly and to honor your privacy choices.
- Name
- analytics-consent
- Provider
- BuiltForLocal (First-party)
- Purpose
- Stores your analytics consent decision ('granted' or 'denied') so the site remembers your choice and does not ask on every visit.
- Type / Category
- localStorage (Strictly Necessary / Functional)
- Duration
- Persistent in browser storage until you change it via 'Cookie preferences' or clear browser site data.
The analytics-consent record stores only one of two text values (granted or denied). It contains no personal identifiers, names, or tracking data.
Analytics Technologies (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors find and navigate our website, which sections are viewed most often, and where technical friction occurs.
Consent-Gated Loading: Google Analytics 4 is activated only after you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. If you click "Decline" or have not yet responded, Google Analytics scripts are not loaded, and no analytics cookies are stored.
When analytics is active, Google Analytics may set the following cookies:
- Name
- _ga
- Provider
- Google Analytics (Google LLC, Third-party)
- Purpose
- Distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated pseudonymous identifier to calculate visitor, session, and campaign metrics.
- Type / Category
- HTTP Cookie (Analytics / Performance)
- Duration
- Up to 2 years (or default GA4 expiration)
- Name
- _ga_<container-id>
- Provider
- Google Analytics (Google LLC, Third-party)
- Purpose
- Maintains and persists session state across page views during your visit.
- Type / Category
- HTTP Cookie (Analytics / Performance)
- Duration
- Up to 2 years
We configure Google Analytics with IP anonymization enabled (anonymize_ip: true), and we disable Google advertising signals and ad personalization features.
How to Manage Your Preferences
You have full control over your analytics preferences:
- Cookie Preferences Button: You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by clicking 'Cookie preferences' in the website footer.
- Instant Effect: If you select 'Decline', Google Analytics tracking stops immediately and will not load on future visits unless you re-enable it.
Browser-Level Cookie Controls
Most web browsers allow you to manage, block, or delete cookies and localStorage data through your browser settings. You can set your browser to notify you before accepting cookies or to reject all third-party cookies by default.
For instructions on managing cookies in popular browsers, refer to your browser's official support documentation:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Apple Safari: Settings → Safari → Advanced → Privacy & Cookies
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
Please note that disabling all local storage mechanisms entirely in your browser may cause the cookie banner to appear on every visit.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, legal requirements, or our website features. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
